3.7 Chiang Rai: Things to do

  • Wat Rong Khun, or the White Temple, is a contemporary, unconventional and privately-owned art exhibit in the style of a Buddhist temple, which only opened to visitors in 1997. It is open all year round and there is no charge for admission.
  • The Night Bazaar is a night market in downtown Chiang Rai. It’s a great place to pick up souvenirs and local products as well as take in some free cultural performances.
  • The Hill Tribe Museum exhibits the typical clothing, tools and folk accoutrements of six major tribes. It funds several community projects.

  • Chiang Saen is the border town in Thailand where you can take a long tail boat along the Mekong River and can cross into Myanmar from the city Mai Sai.
