3.3 Chiang Mai: Things to do continued

Cycling Tours

A great way to get an insight into local living is to take a bike tour to the rural areas surrounding Chiang Mai.

Flight of the Gibbon Zipline

There are many zip lining tours you can do in Northern Thailand. If there’s only time for one however, Flight of the Gibbon is the only zip line in Thailand where you can actually see gibbons swinging through the trees while you zip through layers of the unforgettable rainforest canopy.

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

The Night Bazaar, on the east side of the old walled city, is approximately 1km long on Thanon Chang Khlan (large roads in Thailand are named Thanon, and smaller side streets are named Soi) (so Thanon Chang Khlan translates to Chang Khlan Road). The Night Bazaar is open every day of the year regardless of the weather from dusk till around midnight. Here you can pick souvenirs often at better prices than anywhere else in Thailand, and try the local dishes including edible insects!

Go to a Muay Thai Boxing Show

As you walk through the city centre at night you will encounter people on the streets handing out flyers for the boxing shows. There are several stadiums to see a match, which usually costs 400-600 baht, but Kawila Boxing Stadium and Thapae Boxing Stadium are amongst the most popular.

Bathe an Elephant

The Elephant Nature Park is an elephant rescue and rehabilitation camp where visitors can get an elephant education, plus feed and bathe these majestic creatures.

Visit the Hill Tribes

Northern Thailand is home to interesting and colourful ethnic minorities, known as the hill tribes. You can visit the numerous hill tribe villages and even enjoy a homestay.
